The Adult Book Group at the Wadleigh Library will meet on Tuesday, March 27 at 7 pm to discuss Grace Metalious' infamous novel Peyton Place. It has been 50 years since the story first burst upon the scene and put the little town of Gilmanton, New Hampshire, the author's residence at the time, on the map in 1956. We will be listening to a recording of interviews with residents who remember Grace and remember the storm of controversy surrounding the publication of the novel. It was featured on the NHPR program Storylines New England in 2005.
The New Hampshire Humanities Council will sponsor book discussions, lectures, film viewings and walking tours to celebrate the 5oth anniversary of the novel's publication as Manchester's selection of the book for its "One City, One Book" project. Newcomers are welcome to join us anytime. We will be planning trips for the group to attend some of these events in Manchester in April.
